Deanna Swuz dancing at the Cat Club on Sunset Blvd. The following was later
extracted from her journal.
10:09 p.m.
"We arrive at The Cat Club, a cozy little setting roughly the size of a
double-wide trailer right across the street from The Viper Room. Again, there's an 8
dollar cover. Also, it's 15 bucks to park and the cheapest house wine is 8 bucks a glass.
(Anyone notice a trend?)
10:33 p.m.
A band from Minnesota called Velveteen plays. The lead singer is a poor man's Rob
Thomas but younger. He pinches my bottom as I walk past him on my way to the restroom.
10:41 p.m.
It turns out that the restrooms have sliding doors and if you aren't aware of this,
you'll spend quite a few minutes standing around like a load in line.
11:01 p.m.
Hey! More people from Orlando! Jason drove all the way from Santa Barbara. The place
quickly fills up with old and new fans and friends from near and far. Look over there!
It's Jake and the lovely Mimi.
11:16 p.m.
The Velveteen singer pinches me again and then looks down and realizes I'm wearing a
Blue Meridian t-shirt as part of my uniform. He's apologetic (apparently there is some
kind of band code, like honor among thieves). I tell him not to worry about it and then
ask him if he wants to buy a CD."
Kevin mills around holding a bulk pack of drumsticks. Justin fiddles with equipment.
Donovan works the room. Manny stares at a poster of Cat Woman.
