On Saturday October 13th, 2001, Blue Meridian took multiple awards
for the 2nd consecutive year at the Orlando Music Awards.
For the band the day began around 2pm when they stopped by Transcon Studios to breakdown and collect their gear. After the first week of recording "Minerva", they were scheduled to take a short break from the studio to perform their songs and graciously receive their congratulations. By 3:30pm they loaded into Universal Citywalk and set up on the Plaza Stage for their afternoon soundcheck. Across the pond at Hard Rock Live the ceremony was getting set to begin, but the guys were focusing on their "after show" concert. Next up was the invite only pre-party on the terrace at HRL. Free Guinness, greasy quesadeas and pleasant evening breeze and then it was time for the ceremony.
During the ceremony a silly video entitled "A Day In The Life Of Donovan Lyman" was shown. The video basically spoofed Donovan's public persona. It was tongue in cheek and seemed to go over quite well (we may attempt to load the short video here on the website for those that missed the laughs). By 10:40 the band had received "Best Pop Rock" honors. The category of their second nomination would be missed by the guys because it was time to head over to the Plaza Stage and perform.
The show started promptly at 11pm and last exactly one hour. Nearly all the songs from "Minvera" were played including some older ones that hadn't been heard in quite some time. Including: "Dream, Breathe, Scream", "Sideways Silverjet" & "Talliessen".
The set came to a close with the powerful "Juggernaut", but not before news of their second win at the OMA's crept over from across the pond. Blue Meridian had taken "Best Live Band" honors and they had 4 songs left in the set to prove themselves worthy.
It was an exciting night for the band, the record label and the fans. Final thanks for all the support that has helped the band along over the past year.
